Covetousness



Covetousness-الطَّمَع والطامع

. Abasement, disgrace and wretchedness are in covetousness and greed.

ـ اَلمَذَلَّةُ والمَهانَةُ والشَّقاءُ، فِي الطَّمَعِ، والحِرْصِ

. Covetousness makes one enter [into difficulties and humiliation] but does not make him return from it; and it gives a guarantee but does not fulfil it.

ـ اَلطَّمَعُ مُورِدٌ غَيْرُ مُصْدِر، وضامِنٌ غَيْرُ مُوف

. The most destructive thing is covetousness.

ـ أهْلَكُ شَيْء الطَّمَعُ

. The most harmful thing is covetousness.

ـ أضَرُّ شَيْء اَلطَّمَعُ

. The ugliest of traits is covetousness.

ـ أقْبَحُ الشِّيَمِ اَلطَّمَعُ

. The worst thing is covetousness.

ـ أسْوَءُ شَيْء اَلطَّمَعُ

. The root of avarice is covetousness and its fruit is reproach.

ـ أصْلُ الشَّـرَهِ اَلطَّمَعُ، وثَمَرَتُهُ اَلمَلامَةُ

. He who covers himself with covetousness has degraded himself.

ـ أزْرى بِنَفْسهِ مَنِ اسْتَشْعَرَ الطَّمَعَ

. The places where intellects become most deficient are under the flashes of greed.

ـ أكْثَرُ مَصارِعِ العُقُولِ تَحْتَ بُرُوقِ المَطامِعِ

. Covetousness is harmful.

. Covetousness is an affliction.

. Covetousness is a besieging (or and evident) indigence.

ـ اَلطَّمَعُ فَقْرٌ حاصِرٌ(ظاهِرٌ ).

. Covetousness is a present humiliation.

ـ اَلطَّمَعُ مَذَلَّةٌ حاضِرَةٌ

. With covetousness comes humiliation.

. Covetousness is endless bondage.

. How bad a companion of religion covetousness is!

ـ بِئْسَ قَرينُ الدّينِ الطَّمَعُ

. The fruit of covetousness is wretchedness.

ـ ثَمَرَةُ الطَّمَعِ الشَّقاءُ

. The fruit of covetousness is humiliation in this world and the Hereafter.

ـ ثَمَرةُ الطَّمَعِ ذُلُّ الدُّنيا والآخِرَةِ

. Abandon covetousness and greediness and cling to chastity and piety.

ـ ذَرِ الطَّمَعَ، والشَّـرَهَ، وعَلَيْكَ بِلُزُومِ العِفَّةِ، والوَرَعِ

. The abasement of men is in the things they covet and the passing away of lifetimes is in [following] the deceptions of [false] hopes.

ـ ذُلُّ الرِّجالِ فِي المَطامِعِ، وَفِناءُ الآجالِ في غُرُورِ الآمالِ

. The cornerstone of piety is abandoning covetousness.

ـ رَأسُ الوَرَعِ تَرْكُ الطَّمَعِ

. Sometimes there is a false ambition for an unseen (or lost) hope.

ـ رُبَّ طَمَع كاذِب لأمَل غائِب (خائِب ).

. Embarking on avidities cuts off the necks of men.

ـ رُكُوبُ الأطْماعِ يَقْطَعُ رِقابَ الرِّجالِ

. The cause of corruption of certitude is covetousness.

ـ سَبَبُ فَسادِ اليَقينِ الطَّمَعُ

. The cause of corruption of piety is covetousness.

ـ سَبَبُ فَسادِ الوَرَعِ الطَّمَعُ

. Oppose covetousness with piety.

ـ ضادُّوا الطَّمَعَ بِالوَرَعِ

. The servant of the coveted is enslaved and never gains his freedom.

ـ عَبْدُ المَطامِعِ مُسْتَـرَّقٌ، لايَجِدُ أبَداً العِتْقَ

. He who instils covetousness in his soul has deceived it.

ـ غَشَّ نَفْسَهُ مَنْ شَـرَّبَها الطَّمَعَ

. The corruption of religion is [caused by] covetousness.

ـ فَسادُ الدِّينِ الطَّمَعُ

. Covetousness has been paired with humiliation.

ـ قُرِنَ الطَّمَعُ بِالذُّلِّ

. One who trades covetousness for loss of hope [and desire for what others posses], the people will not treat him with contempt.

ـ مَنْ باعَ الطَّمَعَ بِاليَأْسِ لَمْ يَسْتَطِلْ عَلَيْهِ النّاسُ

. How good an aide of hope ambition is!

ـ نِعْمَ عَوْنُ الأمَلِ الطَّمَعُ

. The trouble for religion is covetousness and its rectitude is [in] piety.

ـ نَـكَدُ الدّينِ الطَّمَعُ، وصَلاحُهُ الوَرَعُ

. We seek Allah’s protection from lowly coveted things and the ambitions that are disliked [by Him].

ـ نَعُوذُ بِاللّهِ مِنَ المَطامِعِ الدَّنِيَّةِ، والهِمَمِ الغَيْرِ المَرْضِيَّةِ

. Do not covet that which you do not deserve.

ـ لاتَطْمَعْ فيما لا تَسْتَحِقُّ

. Never let covetousness enslave you and be averse [to the pleasures of this world].

ـ لايَسْتَرِقَّنَّكَ الطَّمَعُ وَكُنْ عَزُوفاً

. Never let yourself covet that which is above your needs thereby letting it overcome you with the desire for more.

ـ لاتُطْمِعَنَّ نَفْسَكَ فيما فَوْقَ الكَفافِ، فَيَغْلِبَكَ بِالزِّيادَةِ

. Do not let covetousness enslave you while Allah has made you free.

ـ لايَسْتَرِقَّـنَّكَ الطَّمَعُ وَقَدْ جَعَلَكَ اللّهُ حُرّاً

. Nothing corrupts religion like covetousness.

ـ لايُفْسِدُ الدّينَ كَالطَّمَعِ

. There is no quality more abased than covetousness.

ـ لاشيمَةَ أذَلُّ مِنَ الطَّمَعِ

. There is no humiliation greater than covetousness.

ـ لاذُلَّ أعْظَمُ مِنَ الطَّمَعِ

. A little covetousness corrupts a lot of piety.

ـ يَسيرُ الطَّمَعِ يُفْسِدُ كَثيرَ الوَرَعِ

. Cupidity corrupts piety and licentiousness [corrupts] God-wariness.

ـ يُفْسِدُ الطَّمَعُ الوَرَعَ، والفُجُورُ التَّقْوى

. Freedom from the captivity of covetousness is [gained] by acquiring loss of hope [in people].

ـ اَلخَلاصُ مِنْ أسْرِ الطَّمَعِ بِاكْتِسابِ اليَأسِ

. Covetousness is one of the two abasements.

ـ اَلطَّمَعُ أحَدُ الذُلَّيْنِ

. One who clings to covetousness is deprived of piety.

ـ مَنْ لَزِمَ الطَّمَعَ عَدِمَ الوَرَعَ

. Whoever takes covetousness as his attire, it makes him swallow failure repeatedly.

ـ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ الطَّمَعَ شِعاراً جَرَّعَتْهُ الخَيْبَةُ مِراراً

. One who entertains the hope of [fulfilment of] false cupidity, the grant [which he receives] belies him.

ـ مَنْ حَدَّثَ نَفْسَهُ بِكاذِبِ الطَّمَعِ كَذَّبَتْهُ العَطِيَّةُ

. One who does not purify his soul from the lowliness of the coveted has actually abased himself and shall be even more abased and disgraced in the Hereafter.

ـ مَنْ لَمْ يُنَزِّهْ نَفْسَهُ عَنْ دَناءَةِ المَطامِعِ فَقَدْ أذَلَّ نَفْسَهُ، وهُوَ فِي الآخِرَةِ أذَلُّ وأَخْزى

. A little cupidity corrupts a lot of piety.

ـ قَليلُ الطَّمَعِ يُفْسِدُ كَثيرَ الوَرَعِ

. Excessive covetousness is the symbol of lack of piety.

ـ كَثْرَةُ الطَّمَعِ عُنْوانُ قِلَّةِ الوَرَعِ

. One who is possessed by covetousness is humiliated.

ـ مَنْ مَلَكَهُ الطَّمَعُ ذَلَّ

. One who clings to covetousness is deprived of piety.

ـ مَنْ لَزِمَ الطَّمَعَ عَدِمَ الوَرَعَ

. One whose covetousness increases, his downfall becomes greater.

ـ مَنْ كَثُرَ طَمَعُهُ عَظُمَ مَصْرَعُهُ

. Every coveter is a prisoner [of his desires].

ـ كُلُّ طامِع أسيرٌ

. How many a coveter covets pardon.

ـ كَمْ مِنْ طامِع بِالصَّفْحِ عَنْهُ

. One who covets becomes abased and undergoes hardship.

ـ مَنْ طَمِعَ ذَلَّ وتَعَنّى

. There is none more abased than a coveter.

ـ لا أذَلَّ مِنْ طامِع

. The most indigent of people is the coveter.

ـ أفْقَرُ النّاسِ الطّامِعُ

. The most humiliated of all people is the greedy, suspicious, coveter.

ـ أعْظَمُ النّاسِ ذُلاًّ الطّامِعُ الحَريصُ المُريبُ

. The coveter is forever abased.

ـ اَلطّامِعُ أبَداً ذَليلٌ

. The coveter is forever in the shackles of disgrace.

Haughtiness



Haughtiness-الاِستطالة


1
. Whoever is haughty with his brothers, nobody will be sincere with him.

ـ مَنِ اسْتَطالَ عَلَى الإخْوانِ لَمْ يَخْـلُصْ لَهُ إنْسانٌ

. Whoever is haughty with people because of his authority, his authority will get stripped away.


2
ـ مَنِ اسْتَطالَ عَلَى النّاسِ بِقُدْرَتِهِ سُلِبَ القُدْرَةُ

. Haughtiness is the language of error and ignorance.

ـ اَلاِسْتِطالَةُ لِسانُ الغِوايَةِ والجَهالَةِ


4
. Do not be haughty with the one whom you have not enslaved.1

ـ لاتَسْتَطِلْ عَلى مَنْ لاتَسْتَرِقَّ

Innermost Thoughts



Innermost thoughts-الطّوية

. One of the [great] tribulations is [having] evil inner thoughts.

Frivolity



Frivolity-الطَّيش

. Frivolity [and heedlessness] makes life bitter.

ـ اَلطَّيْشُ يُنَـكِّدُ العَيْشَ

	

	
	



	

		

Victory



Victory-الظّفر


1
. Victory is [attained] by prudence, and prudence comes through experience.

ـ اَلظَّفَرُ بِالحَزْمِ، والحَزْمُ بِالتَّجارِبِ

. The sweetness of victory effaces the bitterness of patience.

ـ حَلاوَةُ الظَّفَرِ تَمْحُو مَرارَةَ الصَّبْرِ

. The alms-tax of victory is benevolence.

ـ زَكاةُ الظَّفَرِ الإحْسانُ

. He who has been vanquished by sin has not gained victory.

ـ ما ظَفِرَ مَنْ ظَفَرَ الإثْمُ بِهِ

. The key to victory is remaining patient.

ـ مِفْتاحُ الظَّفَرِ لُزُومُ الصَّبْرِ

. Never become vain because of [your] victory, for indeed you are not safe from the victory of time over you.

ـ لاتَبْطِرَنَّ بِالظَّفَرِ، فَإنَّكَ لا تَأمَنُ ظَفَرَ الزَّمانِ بِكَ

. There is no victory for the one who has no patience.

ـ لا ظَفَرَ لِمَنْ لا صَبْرَ لَهُ

. Victory is the intercessor of the guilty.
