The Hypocrites

[2:11] And when it is said to them, do not make mischief in the land, they say: We are but peace-makers.

[2:12] Now surely they themselves are the mischief makers, but they do not perceive.

[2:13] And when it is said to them: Believe as the people believe they say: Shall we believe as the fools believe? Now surely they themselves are the fools, but they do not know.

[2:14] And when they meet those who believe, they say: We believe; and when they are alone with their Shaitans, they say: Surely we are with you, we were only mocking.

[2:15] Allah shall pay them back their mockery, and He leaves them alone in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on.

[2:16] These are they who buy error for the right direction, so their bargain shall bring no gain, nor are they the followers of the right direction.

[2:17] Their parable is like the parable of one who kindled a fire but when it had illumined all around him, Allah took away their light, and left them in utter darkness, they do not see.

[2:18] Deaf, dumb (and) blind, so they will not turn back.

[2:19] Or like abundant rain from the cloud in which is utter darkness and thunder and lightning; they put their fingers into their ears because of the thunder peal, for fear of death, and Allah encompasses the unbelievers.

[2:20] The lightning almost takes away their sight; whenever it shines on them they walk in it, and when it becomes dark to them they stand still; and if Allah had pleased He would certainly have taken away their hearing and their sight; surely Allah has power over all things.

[2:76] And when they meet those who believe they say: We believe, and when they are alone one with another they say: Do you talk to them of what Allah has disclosed to you that they may contend with you by this before your Lord? Do you not then understand?

[2:77] Do they not know that Allah knows what they keep secret and what they make known?

[4:60] Have you not seen those who assert that they believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you? They desire to summon one another to the judgment of the Shaitan, though they were commanded to deny him, and the Shaitan desires to lead them astray into a remote error.

[4:61] And when it is said to them: Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger, you will see the hypocrites turning away from you with (utter) aversion.

[4:62] But how will it be when misfortune befalls them on account of what their hands have sent before? Then they will come to you swearing by Allah: We did not desire (anything) but good and concord.

[4:63] These are they of whom Allah knows what is in their hearts; therefore turn aside from them and admonish them, and speak to them effectual words concerning themselves.

[4:66] And if We had prescribed for them: Lay down your lives or go forth from your homes, they would not have done it except a few of them; and if they had done what they were admonished, it would have certainly been better for them and best in strengthening (them);

[4:67] And then We would certainly have given them from Ourselves a great reward.

[4:68] And We would certainly have guided them in the right path.

[4:78] Wherever you are, death will overtake you, though you are in lofty towers, and if a benefit comes to them, they say: This is from Allah; and if a misfortune befalls them, they say: This is from you (O Muhammad). Say: All is from Allah, but what is the matter with these people that they do not make approach to understanding what is told (them)?

[4:79] Whatever benefit comes to you (O man!), it is from Allah, and whatever misfortune befalls you, it is from yourself, and We have sent you (O Prophet!), to mankind as a messenger; and Allah is sufficient as a witness.

[4:81] And they say: Obedience. But when they go out from your (O Muhammad) presence, a party of them decide by night upon doing otherwise than what you say; and Allah writes down what they decide by night, therefore turn aside from them and trust in Allah, and Allah is sufficient as a protector.

[4:138] Announce to the hypocrites that they shall have a painful chastisement:

[4:140] And indeed He has revealed to you in the Book that when you hear Allah's communications disbelieved in and mocked at do not sit with them until they enter into some other discourse; surely then you would be like them; surely Allah will gather together the hypocrites and the unbelievers all in hell.

[4:141] Those who wait for (some misfortune to befall) you then If you have a victory from Allah they say: Were we not with you? And if there IS a chance for the unbelievers, they say: Did we not acquire the mastery over you and defend you from the believers? So Allah shall Judge between you on the day of resurrection, and Allah will by no means give the unbelievers a way against the believers.

[4:142] Surely the hypocrites strive to deceive Allah, and He shall requite their deceit to them, and when they stand up to prayer they stand up sluggishly; they do it only to be seen of men and do not remember Allah save a little.

[4:143] Wavering between that (and this), (belonging) neither to these nor to those; and whomsoever Allah causes to err, you shall not find a way for him.

[4:145] Surely the hypocrites are in the lowest stage of the fire and you shall not find a helper for them.

[4:146] Except those who repent and amend and hold fast to Allah and are sincere in their religion to Allah, these are with the believers, and Allah will grant the believers a mighty reward.

[5:41] O Messenger! let not those grieve you who strive together in hastening to unbelief from among those who say with their mouths: We believe, and their hearts do not believe, and from among those who are Jews; they are listeners for the sake of a lie, listeners for another people who have not come to you; they alter the words from their places, saying: If you are given this, take it, and if you are not given this, be cautious; and as for him whose temptation Allah desires, you cannot control anything for him with Allah. Those are they for whom Allah does not desire that He should purify their hearts; they shall have disgrace in this world, and they shall have a grievous chastisement in the hereafter.

[5:42] (They are) listeners of a lie, devourers of what is forbidden; therefore if they come to you, judge between them or turn aside from them, and if you turn aside from them, they shall not harm you in any way; and if you judge, judge between them with equity; surely Allah loves those who judge equitably.

[5:52] But you will see those in whose hearts is a disease hastening towards them, saying: We fear lest a calamity should befall us; but it may be that Allah will bring the victory or a punishment from Himself, so that they shall be regretting on account of what they hid in their souls.

[5:53] And those who believe will say: Are these they who swore by Allah with the most forcible of their oaths that they were most surely with you? Their deeds shall go for nothing, so they shall become losers.

[8:49] When the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was disease said: Their religion has deceived them; and whoever trusts in Allah, then surely Allah is Mighty, Wise.

[9:50] If good befalls you (O Muhammad), it grieves them, and if hardship afflicts you, they say: Indeed we had taken care of our affair before; and they turn back and are glad.

[9:52] Say (Muhammad): Do you (hypocrites) await for us but one of two most excellent things (victory or martyrdom)? And we await for you that Allah will afflict you with punishment from Himself or by our hands. So wait; we too will wait with you.

[9:53] Say: Spend willingly or unwillingly, it shall not be accepted from you; surely you are a transgressing people.

[9:54] And nothing hinders their spendings being accepted from them, except that they disbelieve in Allah and in His Messenger and they do not come to prayer but while they are sluggish, and they do not spend but while they are unwilling.

[9:55] Let not then their property and their children excite your admiration; Allah only wishes to chastise them with these in this world's life and (that) their souls may depart while they are unbelievers.

[9:56] And they swear by Allah that they are most surely of you, and they are not of you, but they are a people who are afraid (of you).

[9:57] If they could find a refuge or cave or a place to enter into, they would certainly have turned thereto, running away in all haste.

[9:58] And of them there are those who blame you with respect to the alms; so if they are given from it they are pleased, and if they are not given from it, lo! They are full of rage.

[9:59] And if they were content with what Allah and His Messenger gave them, and had said: Allah is sufficient for us; Allah will soon give us (more) out of His grace and His Messenger too; surely to Allah do we make our petition.

[9:64] The hypocrites fear lest a chapter should be sent down to them telling them plainly of what is in their hearts. Say: Go on mocking, surely Allah will bring forth what you fear.

[9:65] And if you should question them, they would certainly say: We were only idly discoursing and sporting. Say: Was it at Allah and His communications and His Messenger that you mocked?

[9:66] Do not make excuses; you have denied indeed after you had believed; if We pardon a party of you, We will chastise (another) party be- cause they are guilty.

[9:67] The hypocritical men and the hypocritical women are all alike; they enjoin evil and forbid good and withhold their hands; they have forsaken Allah, so He has forsaken them; surely the hypocrites are the transgressors.

[9:68] Allah has promised the hypocritical men and the hypocritical women and the unbelievers the fire of hell to abide therein; it is enough for them; and Allah has cursed them and they shall have lasting punishment.

[9:69] Like those before you; they were stronger than you in power and more abundant in wealth and children, so they enjoyed their portion; thus have you enjoyed your portion as those before you enjoyed their portion; and you entered into vain discourses like the vain discourses in which entered those before you. These are they whose works are null in this world and the hereafter, and these are they who are the losers.

[9:74] They swear by Allah that they did not speak, and certainly they did speak, the word of unbelief, and disbelieved after their Islam, and they had determined upon what they have not been able to effect, and they did not find fault except because Allah and His Messenger enriched them out of His grace; therefore if they repent, it will be good for them; and if they turn back, Allah will chastise them with a painful chastisement in this world and the hereafter, and they shall not have in the land any guardian or a helper.

[9:75] And there are those of them who made a covenant with Allah: If He give us out of His grace, we will certainly give alms and we will certainly be of the good.

[9:76] But when He gave them out of His grace, they became niggardly of it and they turned back and they withdrew.

[9:77] So He made hypocrisy to follow as a consequence into their hearts till the day when they shall meet Him because they failed to per- form towards Allah what they had promised with Him and because they told lies.

[9:79] They who taunt those of the faithful who give their alms freely, and those who give to the extent of their earnings and scoff at them; Allah will pay them back their scoffing, and they shall have a painful chastisement.

[9:80] Ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them; even if you ask forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah will not forgive them; this is because they disbelieve in Allah and His Messenger, and Allah does not guide the transgressing people.

[9:97] The dwellers of the desert are very hard in unbelief and hypocrisy, and more disposed not to know the limits of what Allah has revealed to His Messenger; and Allah is Knowing, Wise.

[9:98] And of the dwellers of the desert are those who take what they spend to be a fine, and they wait (the befalling of) calamities to you; on them (will be) the evil calamity; and Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

[9:109] Is he, therefore, better who lays his foundation on fear of Allah and (His) good pleasure, or he who lays his foundation on the edge of a cracking hollowed bank, so it broke down with him into the fire of hell; and Allah does not guide the unjust people.

[9:110] The building which they have built will ever continue to be a source of disquiet in their hearts, except that their hearts get cut into pieces; and Allah is Knowing, Wise.

[9:124] And whenever a chapter is revealed, there are some of them who say: Which of you has it strengthened in faith? Then as for those who believe, it strengthens them in faith and they rejoice.

[9:125] And as for those in whose hearts is a disease, it adds unclean- ness to their uncleanness and they die while they are unbelievers.

[9:126] Do they not see that they are tried once or twice in every year, yet they do not turn (to Allah) nor do they mind.

[9:127] And whenever a chapter is revealed, they cast glances at one another: Does anyone see you? Then they turn away: Allah has turned away their hearts because they are a people who do not understand.

[11:5] Now surely they fold up their breasts that they may conceal (their enmity) from Him (Muhammad); now surely, when they use their garments as a covering, He (Allah) knows what they conceal and what they make public; surely He knows what is in the breasts.

[24:47] And they say: We believe in Allah and in the messenger and we obey; then a party of them turn back after this, and these are not believers.

[24:48] And when they are called to Allah and His Messenger that he may judge between them, lo! a party of them turn aside.

[24:49] And if the truth be on their side, they come to him quickly, obedient.

[24:50] Is there in their hearts a disease, or are they in doubt, or do they fear that Allah and His Messenger will act wrongfully towards them? Nay! they themselves are the unjust.

[29:10] And among men is he who says: We believe in Allah; but when he is persecuted in (the way of) Allah he thinks the persecution of men to be as the chastisement of Allah; and if there come assistance from your Lord, they would most certainly say: Surely we were with you. What! is not Allah the best knower of what is in the breasts of mankind.

[29:11] And most certainly Allah will know those who believe and most certainly He will know the hypocrites.

[33:60] If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease and the agitators in the city do not desist, We shall most certainly set you over them, then they shall not be your neighbors in it but for a little while;

[33:61] Cursed: wherever they are found they shall be seized and murdered, a (horrible) murdering.

[33:62] (Such has been) the course of Allah with respect to those who have gone before; and you shall not find any change in the course of Allah.

[47:20] And those who believe say: Why has not a chapter been revealed? But when a decisive chapter is revealed, and fighting is mentioned therein you see those in whose hearts is a disease look to you with the look of one fainting because of death. Woe to them then!

[47:21] Obedience and a gentle word (was proper); but when the affair becomes settled, then if they remain true to Allah it would certainly be better for them.

[47:22] But if you held command, you were sure to make mischief in the land and cut off the ties of kinship!

[47:23] Those it is whom Allah has cursed so He has made them deaf and blinded their eyes.

[47:24] Do they not then reflect on the Quran? Nay, on the hearts there are locks.

[47:25] Surely (as for) those who return on their backs after that guidance has become manifest to them, the Shaitan has made it a light matter to them; and He gives them respite.

[47:26] That is because they say to those who hate what Allah has revealed: We will obey you in some of the affairs; and Allah knows their secrets.

[47:27] But how will it be when the angels cause them to die smiting their backs.

[47:28] That is because they follow what is displeasing to Allah and are averse to His pleasure, therefore He has made null their deeds.

[47:29] Or do those in whose hearts is a disease think that Allah will not bring forth their spite?

[47:30] And if We please We would have made you (Muhammad) know them (hypocrites) so that you would certainly have recognized them by their marks and most certainly you can recognize them by the intent of (their) speech; and Allah knows your deeds.

[48:6] And (that) He may punish the hypocritical men and the hypocritical women, and the polytheistic men and the polytheistic women, the entertainers of evil thoughts about Allah. On them is the evil turn, and Allah is wroth with them and has cursed them and prepared hell for them, and evil is the resort.

[49:14] The dwellers of the desert say: We believe. Say: You do not believe but say, We submit; and faith has not yet entered into your hearts; and if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not diminish aught of your deeds; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

[58:8] Have you not seen those who are forbidden secret counsels, then they return to what they are forbidden, and they hold secret counsels for sin and revolt and disobedience to the Messenger, and when they come to you they greet you with a greeting with which Allah does not greet you (by twisting the words of Assalamu-alaikum to make it into different meanings), and they say in themselves: Why does not Allah punish us for what we say? Hell is enough for them; they shall enter it, and evil is the resort.

[58:14] Have you not seen those who befriend a people with whom Allah is worth? They are neither of you nor of them, and they swear falsely while they know.

[58:15] Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment; surely what they do is evil.

[58:16] They make their oaths to serve as a cover so they turn away from Allah's way; therefore they shall have an abasing chastisement.

[58:17] Neither their wealth nor their children shall avail them aught against Allah; they are the inmates of the fire, therein they shall abide.

[58:18] On the day that Allah will raise them up all, then they will swear to Him as they swear to you, and they think that they have something; now surely they are the liars.

[58:19] The Shaitan has gained the mastery over them (hypocrites), so he has made them forget the remembrance of Allah; they are the Shaitan's party; now surely the Shaitan's party are the losers.

[58:20] Surely (as for) those who are in opposition to Allah and His Messenger; they shall be among the most abased.

[59:11] Have you not seen those who have become hypocrites? They say to those of their brethren who disbelieve from among the followers of the Book: If you are driven forth, we shall certainly go forth with you, and we will never obey any one concerning you, and if you are fought against, we will certainly help you, and Allah bears witness that they are most surely liars.

[59:12] Certainly if these are driven forth, they will not go forth with them, and if they are fought against, they will not help them, and even if they help them, they will certainly turn (their) backs, then they shall not be helped.

[59:13] You (Muhammad) are certainly greater in being feared in their hearts than Allah; that is because they are a people who do not understand

[59:14] They will not fight against you in a body save in fortified towns or from behind walls; their fighting between them is severe, you may think them as one body, and their hearts are disunited; that is because they are a people who have no sense.

[59:15] Like those before them shortly; they (Banu Qaniqa) tasted the evil result of their affair, and they shall have a painful punishment.

[63:1] When the hypocrites come to you, they say: We bear witness that you are most surely Allah's Messenger; and Allah knows that you are most surely His Messenger, and Allah bears witness that the hypocrites are surely liars.

[63:2] They make their oaths a shelter, and thus turn away from Allah's way; surely evil is that which they do.

[63:3] That is because they believe, then disbelieve, so a seal is set upon their hearts so that they do not understand.

[63:4] And when you see them, their persons will please you, and If they speak, you will listen to their speech; (they are) as if they were big pieces of wood clad with garments; they think every cry to be against them. They are the enemy, therefore beware of them; may Allah destroy them, whence are they turned back?

[63:5] And when it is said to them: Come, the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you, they turn back their heads and you may see them turning away while they are big with pride.

[63:6] It is alike to them whether you beg forgiveness for them or do not beg forgiveness for them; Allah will never forgive them; surely Allah does not guide the transgressing people.

[63:7] They it is who say: Do not spend upon those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they break up. And Allah's are the treasures of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites do not understand.

[63:8] They say: If we return to Medina, the mighty will surely drive out the meaner therefrom; and to Allah belongs the might and to His Messenger and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know.

Iblis and Shaitans

[2:34] And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance to Adam they did obeisance, but Iblis (did it not). He refused and he was proud, and he was one of the unbelievers.

[2:168] O men! Eat the lawful and good things out of what is in the earth, and do not follow the footsteps of the Shaitan; surely he is your open enemy.

[2:169] He only enjoins you evil and indecency, and that you may speak against Allah what you do not know

[2:208] O you who believe! enter into submission one and all and do not follow the footsteps of Shaitan; surely he is your open enemy.

[2:268] Shaitan threatens you with poverty and enjoins you to be niggardly, and Allah promises you forgiveness from Himself and abundance; and Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing.

[4:117] They do not call besides Him on anything but idols, and they do not call on anything but a rebellious Shaitan.

[4:118] Allah has cursed him; and he said: Most certainly I will take of Thy servants an appointed portion:

[4:119] And most certainly I will lead them astray and excite in them vain desires, and bid them so that they shall slit the ears of the cattle, and most certainly I will bid them so that they shall alter Allah's creation; and whoever takes the Shaitan for a guardian rather than Allah he indeed shall suffer a manifest loss.

[4:120] He gives them promises and excites vain desires in them; and the Shaitan does not promise them but to deceive.

[4:121] These are they whose abode is hell, and they shall not find any refuge from it.

[7:27] O children of Adam! Let not the Shaitan cause you to fall into affliction as he expelled your parents from the garden, pulling off from them both their clothing that he might show them their evil inclinations, he surely sees you, he as well as his host, from whence you cannot see them; surely We have made the Shaitans to be the guardians of those who do not believe.

[15:28] And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape.

[15:29] So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down making obeisance to him.

[15:30] So the angels made obeisance, all of them together,

[15:31] But Iblis (did it not); he refused to be with those who made obeisance.

[15:32] He said: O Iblis! What excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance?

[15:33] He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape.

[15:34] He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away:

[15:35] And surely on you is curse until the day of judgment.

[15:36] He said: My Lord! Then respite me till the time when they are raised.

[15:37] He said: So surely you are of the respited ones

[15:38] Till the period of the time made known.

[15:39] He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate

[15:40] Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones.

[15:41] He said: This is a right way with Me:

[15:42] Surely, As regards My servants, you have no authority ,over them except those who follow you of the deviators.

[15:43] And surely Hell is the promised place of them all:

[16:99] Surely he (shaitan) has no authority over those who believe and rely on their Lord.

[16:100] His authority is only over those who befriend him (Shaitan) and those who associate others with Him (Allah).

[17:53] And say to My servants (that) they speak that which is best; surely the Shaitan sows dissensions among them; surely the Shaitan is an open enemy to man.

[17:61] And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance to Adam; they made obeisance, but Iblis (did it not). He said: Shall I make obeisance to him whom Thou hast created of dust?

[17:62] He said: Tell me, is this he whom Thou hast honored above me? If Thou shouldst respite me to the day of resurrection, I will most certainly cause his progeny to perish except a few.

[17:63] He said: Be gone! For whoever of them will follow you, then surely hell is your recompense, a full recompense:

[17:64] And beguile whomsoever of them you can with your voice, and collect against them your forces riding and on foot, and share with them in wealth and children, and hold out promises to them; and the Shaitan makes not promises to them but to deceive:

[17:65] Surely (as for) My servants, you have no authority over them; and your Lord is sufficient as a Protector. [

[18:50] And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance to Adam; they made obeisance but Iblis (did it not). He was of the jinn, so he transgressed the commandment of his Lord. What! Would you then take him and his offspring for friends rather than Me, and they are your enemies? Evil is (this) change for the unjust.

[22:3] And among men there is he who disputes about Allah without knowledge and follows every rebellious Shaitan;

[22:4] Against him it is written down that whoever takes him (Shaitan) for a friend, he shall lead him astray and conduct him to the chastisement of the burning fire.

[22:52] And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet, but when he desired, the Shaitan made a suggestion respecting his desire; but Allah annuls that which the Shaitan casts, then does Allah establish His communications, and Allah is Knowing, Wise,

[22:53] So that He may make what the Shaitan casts a trial for those in whose hearts is disease and those whose hearts are hard; and most surely the unjust are in a great opposition,

[26:221] Shall I inform you (of him) upon whom the Shaitans descend?

[26:222] They descend upon every lying, sinful one,

[26:223] They incline their ears, and most of them are liars.

[26:224] And as to the poets, those who go astray follow them.

[26:225] Do you not see that they wander about bewildered in every valley?

[26:226] And that they say that which they do not do,

[34:20] And certainly the Shaitan found true his conjecture concerning them, so they (wretched) follow him, except a party of the believers.

[34:21] And he has no authority over them, but that We may distinguish him who believes in the hereafter from him who is in doubt concerning it; and your Lord is the Preserver of all things

[35:5] O men! Surely the promise of Allah is true, therefore let not the life of this world deceive you, and let not the arch-deceiver (Iblis) deceive you respecting Allah.

[35:6] Surely the Shaitan is your enemy, so take him for an enemy; he only invites his party that they may be inmates of the burning fire.

[36:59] And get aside today (at Qayamah), O guilty ones!

[36:60] Did I not charge you, O children of Adam! That you should not serve the Shaitan? Surely he is your open enemy,

[36:61] And that you should serve Me; this is the right way.

[36:62] And certainly he led astray numerous people from among you.

What! could you not then understand?

[37:6] Surely We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment, the stars,

[37:7] And (there is) a safeguard against every rebellious Shaitan.

[37:8] They cannot listen to the exalted assembly and they are thrown at from every side,

[37:9] Being driven off (from the heavens), and for them is a perpetual chastisement,

[37:10] Except him who snatches off but once, then there follows him a brightly shining flame (bolt)

[37:11] Then ask them whether they (demons) are stronger in creation or those (others) whom We have created. Surely We created them of firm clay.

[38:71] When your Lord said to the angels; Surely I am going to create a mortal from dust:

[38:72] So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, then fall down making obeisance to him.

[38:73] And the angels did obeisance, all of them,

[38:74] But not Iblis: he was proud and he was one of the unbelievers.

[38:75] He said: O Iblis! What prevented you that you should do obeisance to him whom I created with My two hands? Are you proud or are you of the exalted ones?

[38:76] He said: I am better than he; Thou hast created me of fire, and him Thou didst create of dust.

[38:77] He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away:

[38:78] And surely My curse is on you to the day of judgment.

[38:79] He said: My Lord! Then respite me to the day that they are raised.

[38:80] He said: Surely you are of the respited ones,

[38:81] Till the period of the time made known.

[38:82] He said: Then by Thy Might I will surely make them live an evil life, all,

[38:83] Except Thy servants from among them, the purified ones.

[38:84] He said: The truth then is and the truth do I speak:

[38:85] That I (Allah) will most certainly fill hell with you (Iblis) and with those among them who follow you, all.

[41:36] And if an interference of the Shaitan should cause you mischief, seek refuge in Allah; surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

[43:36] And whoever turns himself away from the remembrance of the Beneficent Allah, We appoint for him a Shaitan, so he becomes his associate.

[43:37] And most surely they (shaitans) turn them away from the path, and they think that they are guided aright:

[43:38] Until when he comes to Us, he says: O would that between me and you there were the distance of the East and the West; so evil is the associate!

[43:62] And let not the Shaitan prevent you (from Sirat Al-Mustaqeem); surely he is your open enemy.

[58:10] Secret counsels are only (the work) of the Shaitan that he may cause to grieve those who believe, and he cannot hurt them in the least except with Allah's permission, and on Allah let the believers rely.

[59:16] Like the Shaitan when he says to man: Disbelieve, but when he disbelieves, he says: I am surely clear of you; surely I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

[59:17] Therefore the end of both of them is that they are both in the fire to abide therein, and that is the reward of the unjust.
