Wiladat Hazrat Fatima Masuma-e-Qum (as)

The beginning of Islamic month of Zilqad marks the birth anniversary of Lady Fatima Masooma (as). Lady Fatima Masuma (as), most commonly known as Masooma-e-Qum (as), was born on the 1st of Zilqad, 174 AH in Madina. She is also known as Kareema Ahlul Bayt (as), the noble woman of the Prophet (pbuh)`s household. Lady Fatima Masooma (as) is the most beloved and the only sister of our 8th Imam, Imam Raza (as).

The beginning of the Islamic month of Dhil Qa’ada marks the birth anniversary of Lady Fatima al-Masooma (peace be upon her). She was born on 1 Dhil Qa’ada, 174 AH in the holy city of Medina. Her father was Imam Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him), and her mother was Lady Najmah. Not long after her birth, her father was martyred in the dungeons of Harun the Abbasid tyrant. After that, her brother Imam Ali ar-Ridha (peace be upon him) became her guardian.

A Glance At The Holy Shrine of Hazrat Fatima Masumah (S.A.)

When Hadrat Fatima Masoumah (A.S.) was buried in Qum there was a shade made of straw on the holy grave built by Musa bin Khajraj. The first dome which was in the form of a tower, was built by Hadrat Zainab (A.S.), the daughter of Imam Muhammad Taqi al-Jawad (A.S.) in the middle of third century hijrah. Stone, bricks and stucco were used as construction material for this dome. With the burial of the ladies from the Holy Ahlul Bayt (A.S.) beside the grave of Hadrat Fatima Masoumah (A.S.) during later period two other domes were constructed beside the already existing dome.

On the first of Dhi al-Qa’dah in 173 AH, the city of Medina was enlightened by the birth of Hadrat Fatimah Ma’soomah (A.S.)(1). She was born to Imam Moosa ibn Ja’far (A.S.) and her mother, Najmah. Hadrat Fatimah Masumah (A.S.) was the second and last child of Najmah, after her older brother, Imam Ali ibn Moosa al-Reza (A.S.). In fact, after Imam Reza (A.S.), she has the highest status and position amongst the children of Imam Moosa al-Kadhim (A.S.). (2)

1- The separation of Lady Fatima Masuma (A) from Imam al-Ridā (A) Although the separation from her father had been very difficult, Lady Fatima Masuma (A) still had her brother to comfort her. However, in 200 A.H, Ma’mūn (the 7th Abbasid Caliph), demanded Imam al-Ridha’s (A) presence in Khurāsān. The departure of her brother further increased her sorrow. This separation lasted for only about one year, but sadly she passed away before they could be reunited. When Amīn (the 6th Abbasid Caliph) was killed by the soldiers of his brother Ma’mūn, and Ma’mūn became the Caliph, his rule was initially very unstable. The kingdom was divided and Ma’mūn felt the need to gather support. So as to gain the support of the Shi`a, he insisted that Imam al-Ridā (A) come to Khurāsān.
