365 Those for Whom Paradise is Guaranteed

1157. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : مَن ضَمِنَ لي ما بينَ لِحْيَيْهِ‏وما بينَ رِجْلَيْهِ ضَمِنتُ له الجَنّةَ1

1157. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Whoever safeguards, for my sake, what is between his beard [i.e. his tongue] and what is between his legs [i.e. his private parts], I will safeguard Paradise for him.'2

1158. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : تَقَبّلوا لي بسِتٍّ أتَقَبّلْ لَكُم بالجَنّةِ: إذا حَدَّثْتُم فلا تَكْذِبوا ، وإذا وَعدْتُم فلا تُخْلِفوا ، وإذا ائتُمِنْتُم فلا تَخونوا ، وغُضّوا أبْصارَكُم ، واحْفَظوا فُروجَكُم ، وكُفُّوا أيديَكُم وألسِنَتَكُم3

1158. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Present me with six things and I will present you with Paradise. When you speak, do not lie; when you promise, do not break it; when you are entrusted with something, do not betray; lower your gazes, guard your private parts, restrain your hands and your tongues.'4

366 - مَن تُحَرَّمُ عَلَيهِ الجَنَّةُ

366 Those for Whom Paradise is Forbidden

(إِنَّهُ مَنْ يُشْرِكْ بِاللَّهِ فَقَدْ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَنَّةَ وَمَأْوَاهُ النَّارُ)1

“Indeed whoever ascribes partners to Allah, Allah shall forbid him [entry into] Paradise. And his refuge shall be the Fire.” 2

1159. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : تَحْرُمُ الجنّةُ على‏ ثلاثةٍ : على‏ المَنّانِ ، وعلى‏ المُغْتابِ ، وعلى‏ مُدمِنِ الخَمرِ3

1159. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Paradise is forbidden to three types of people: one who is reproachful for his gifts, one who backbites, and one who imbibes alcohol.'4

1160. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : لايَدخُلُ الجَنّةَ خِبٌّ ولا خائِنٌ5

1160. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'A traitor and a deceiver will not enter Paradise.'6

1161. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : مَنِ اسْتَرْعى‏ رَعِيَّةً فغَشَّها حَرّمَ اللَّهُ علَيهِ الجَنّةَ7

1161. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Whoever assumes responsibility of taking care of a people, then deceives them, Allah forbids him entry into Paradise.'8

367 - أبوابُ الجَنَّةِ

367 The Gates of Paradise

(جَنَّاتِ عَدْنٍ مُفَتَّحَةً لَهُمُ الْأَبْوَابُ)1

“-Gardens of Eden, whose gates are flung open for them.” 2

1162. رسول اللَّه صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : الجَنَّةُ لَها ثَمانِيَةُ أبوابٍ... مَن أرادَ الدُّخولَ مِن هذِهِ الأَبوابِ الثَّمانِيَةِ فَليَتَمَسَّك بِأَربَعِ خِصالٍ : الصَّدَقَةِ وَالسَّخاءِ وحُسنِ الخُلُقِ وكَفِّ الأذى‏ عَن عِبادِ اللَّهِ تَعالى‏3

1162. The Prophet (SAWA), 'Heaven has eight doors....he who wants to enter any of these eight doors must cling onto four characteristics: Charity, generosity, good manners and refraining from harming any of the servants of Allah Almighty.'4

1163. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنَّ لِلجَنّةِ ثَمانِيَةَ أبوابٍ: بابٌ يَدخُلُ مِنهُ النَّبِيّونَ والصِّدِّيقونَ ، وبابٌ يَدخُلُ مِنهُ الشُّهَداءُ والصّالِحونَ ، وخَمسَةُ أبْوابٍ يَدخُلُ مِنها شِيعَتُنا ومُحِبّونا ...، وبابٌ يَدخُلُ مِنهُ سائرُ المُسلِمينَ مِمَّنْ شَهِدَ أنْ لا إلهَ إلّا اللَّهُ ، ولَم يَكُنْ في قَلبِهِ مِقْدارُ ذَرَّةٍ مِن بُغْضِنا أهلَ البَيتِ5

1163. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Paradise has eight doors: a door through which the prophets and the truthful ones will enter, a door through which the martyrs and the righteous will enter, five doors through which our Shia and our lovers will enter ..., a door through which the rest of the Muslims will enter, that is, those that bear witness to 'There is no god but Allah' and who do not bear an atom's weight of enmity towards us, the Ahl al-bayt.'6

368 - دَرَجاتُ الجَنَّةِ

368 The Ranks in Paradise

(وَمَنْ يَأْتِهِ مُؤْمِناً قَدْ عَمِلَ الصّالِحاتِ فَأُولئِكَ لَهُمُ الدَّرَجَاتُ الْعُلى‏)1

“But whoever comes to Him with faith and he has done righteous deeds, for such shall be the highest ranks.” 2

1164. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : إنَّ في الجَنّةِ دَرَجةً لا يَنالُها إلّاإمامٌ عادِلٌ ، أو ذو رَحِمٍ وَصُولٌ ، أو ذو عِيالٍ صَبورٌ3

1164. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'There is a station in Paradise that none can attain except a just leader, or one who has maintained relations with his kin, or who is forbearing with his family.'4

1165. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام - في صفةِ الجنّةِ - : دَرَجاتٌ مُتَفاضِلاتٌ ، ومَنازِلُ مُتَفاوِتاتٌ5

1165. Imam Ali (AS) said, describing Paradise, 'There are degrees differing in excellence, and various stations.'6

1166. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنَّ أهْلَ الجَنّةِ لَيَتَراؤونَ مَنازِلَ شِيعَتِنا كما يَتَراءى‏ الرّجُلُ مِنكُمُ الكَواكِبَ في اُفُقِ السَّماءِ7

1166. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'The people of Paradise will gaze upon the stations of our Shia just as one of you gazes at the stars on the horizons of the sky.'8

1167. الإمامُ زينُ العابدينَ عليه السلام : علَيكَ بالقُرآنِ، فإنَّ اللَّهَ خَلقَ الجَنّةَ وجَعلَ دَرَجاتِها على‏ قَدْرِ آياتِ القُرآنِ، فمَن قَرأَ القُرآنَ قالَ لَهُ : إقْرَأْ وارْقَ ، ومَن دَخلَ مِنهُمُ الجَنّةَ لَم يَكُنْ في الجَنّةِ أعلى‏ دَرَجةً مِنهُ ما خلا النَّبِيّونَ والصِّدِّيقونَ9

1167. Imam Zayn al-Abidin (AS) said, 'Adhere to the Qur'an ...for Allah has created Paradise, and has made its stations in accordance with the verses of the Qur'an. So whoever reads the Qur'an, it will say to him, 'Read and ascend!' So whoever from among them enters Paradise, there will not be a station higher than theirs except for the prophets and the truthful ones.'10

1168. الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام : إنَّ أدنى‏ أهْلِ الجَنّةِ مَنزِلاً لَو نَزلَ بهِ‏الثّقَلانِ - الجِنُّ والإنسُ - لَوَسِعَهُم طَعاماً وشَراباً ، ولا يَنْقُصُ مِمّا عِندَهُ شَي‏ءٌ11

1168. Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'For the one who occupies the lowest station in Paradise, were the humans and the jinn to appear as guests for him, nothing would diminish from him if he were to provide them all with food and drink.'12

369 The First to Enter Paradise

1169. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله - لعليٍّ عليه السلام - : إنَّ أوَّلَ أربَعةٍ يَدْخُلونَ الجَنّةَ: أنا وأنتَ والحَسنُ والحُسينُ1

1169. The Prophet (SAWA) said to Imam Ali (AS), 'The first four people to enter Paradise will be you, me, Hasan and Husayn.'2

1170. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : أوَّلُ مَن يَدخُلُ الجَنّةَ مِن خَلقِ اللَّهِ الفُقَراءُ3

1170. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The first of people to enter Paradise will be the poor.'4

1171. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : أوَّلُ مَن يَدخُلُ الجَنّةَ شَهيدٌ وعَبدٌ أحسنَ عِبادةَ ربِّهِ5

1171. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The first to enter Paradise will be the martyr and the servant who worshipped his Lord well.'6

1172. الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : أوَّلُ أهْلِ الجَنّةِ دُخولاً إلى‏ الجَنّةِ أهْلُ المَعروفِ7

1172. Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'Among the people of Paradise, the first to enter therein will be the one who does good to others.'8

370 - سادَةُ أهلِ الجَنَّةِ

370 The Masters of the People of Paradise

1173. الإمام عليٌّ عليه السلام : سادَةُ أهلِ الجَنَّةِ الأَتقيِاءُ الأَبرارُ1

1173. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'The masters of the people of Heaven are the pious and righteous.'2

1174. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : سادَةُ أهلِ الجَنَّةِ المُخلِصونَ3

1174. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'The masters of the people of Heaven are the sincere.'4

1175. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : سادَةُ أهلِ الجَنَّةِ الأَسخِياءُ وَالمُتَّقونَ5

1175. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'The masters of the people of Heaven are the generous and pious.'6

371 Inclusiveness of Paradise

1176. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : كُلُّكُم يَدخُلونَ الجنّةَ ، إلّا مَن شَرَدَ على‏ اللَّهِ شِرادَ البَعيرِ على‏ أهلِهِ1

1176. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'All of you shall enter Paradise except for the one who fled from Allah like the fleeing of a camel from its owner.'2

1177. الإمامُ زينُ العابدينَ عليه السلام : معاشِرَ شيعتِنا ، أمّا الجنّةُ فلَن تَفوتَكُم سَريعاً كانَ أو بَطيئاً، ولكنْ تَنافَسُوا في الدَّرَجاتِ3

1177. Imam Zayn al-Abidin (AS) said, 'O our followers (Shia)! As for Paradise, it will not escape you sooner or later, but do compete with each other to attain stations therein.'4

372 - أنواعُ الجُنونِ‏

372 Types of Madness

1178. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : الشَّبابُ شُعْبَةٌ مِن الجُنونِ1

1178. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Youth is a branch of madness.'2

1179. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : الحِدَّةُ ضَرْبٌ مِن الجُنونِ ؛لأنَّ صاحِبَها يَنْدَمُ ، فإنْ لَم يَنْدَمْ فجُنونُهُ مُسْتَحكِمٌ3

1179. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Irascibility is a type of madness, since its perpetrator always regrets. If however, he does not regret, his madness is confirmed.'4

1180. الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام : إنَّ مَن أجابَ في كلِّ ما يُسْألُ عَنهُ لَمَجْنونٌ5

1180. Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'Whoever answers to everything that is asked of him is mad.'6

373 - المَجنونُ الحَقيقيُ‏

373 One Who is Truly Mad

1181. مشكاة الأنوار : مَرَّ رسولُ‏اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله بمَجْنونٍ، فقالَ: ما لَهُ ؟ فقيلَ : إنّهُ مَجْنونٌ ، فقالَ : بَلْ هُو مُصابٌ ، إنَّما المَجْنونُ مَن آثَرَ الدُّنيا على‏ الآخِرَةِ1

1181. It is narrated in Mishkat al-Anwar: The Prophet (SAWA) passed by an insane person and asked, 'What is wrong with him?' He was told that he had gone mad. The Prophet (SAWA) then remarked, 'Rather, he is afflicted. The one who has gone mad is the one who prefers this world to the next.'2

1182. مشكاة الأنوار : مَرَّ برسولِ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله رجُلٌ وهو في أصْحابِهِ ، فقالَ بعضُ القَومِ: مَجْنونٌ! فقالَ النّبيٌّ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : بَلْ هذا رجُلٌ مُصابٌ، إنّما المَجْنونُ عَبدٌ أو أمَةٌ أبْلَيا شَبابَهُما في غَيرِ طاعةِ اللَّهِ3

1182. It is narrated in Mishkat al-Anwar: A man passed by the Prophet (SAWA) while he was sitting with his companions. One of them mentioned that he had gone mad. The Prophet (SAWA) replied, 'This man is, in fact, afflicted, since truly one who is mad, be he male or female, is one who has squandered his youth in other than Allah's obedience.'4

1183. معاني الأخبار : مَرَّ رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله بِرَجُلٍ مَصْروعٍ فقالَ : ما هذا بمَجْنونٍ ، ألَا اُخبِرُكُم بالمَجْنونِ حقَّ المَجْنونِ ؟ ....قالَ: إنَّ المَجْنونَ حقَّ المَجْنونِ المُتَبَخْتِرُ في مِشْيتِهِ ، النّاظِرُ في عِطْفَيْهِ ، المُحَرِّكُ جَنْبَيهِ بمِنْكَبَيْهِ ، فذَاكَ المَجْنونُ وهذا المُبْتلى‏5

1183. It is related from Jabir b. Abdallah al-Ansari that the Prophet (SAWA) passed by one who was affected by madness, and said, 'Shall I inform you of one who is truly mad?' Then he said, 'Indeed one who is mad is one who is haughty in his gait, looking over his shoulders, and swinging his sides from side to side. That is one who is mad and this is one afflicted.'6

76 JIHAD ( 1 ) The Lesser Jihad

374 - الحَثُّ عَلَى الجِهادِ

374 Encouraging of the Lesser Jihad

(يا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ جَاهِدِ الْكُفّارَ وَالْمُنَافِقِينَ وَاغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ)2

“O Prophet! Wage jihad against the faithless and the hypocrites, and be severe with them. Their refuge shall be hell, and it is an evil destination.” 3

(قُلْ إِنْ كَانَ آبَاؤُكُمْ وَأَبْنَاؤُكُمْ . أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَجِهَادٍ فِي سَبِيلِهِ فَتَرَبَّصُوا حَتّى‏ يَأْتِيَ اللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِ واللَّهُ لا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْفاسِقِينَ)4

“Say, 'If your fathers and your sons, your brethren, your spouses, and your kinsfolk, the possessions that you have acquired, the business you fear may suffer, and the dwellings you are fond of, are dearer to you than Allah, and His Apostle and to waging jihad in His way, then wait until Allah issues His edict, and Allah does not guide the transgressing lot.” 5

1184. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : مَن ماتَ ولَم يَغْزُ ، ولَم يُحدِّثْ بهِ‏نَفسَهُ ، ماتَ على‏ شُعْبَةٍ مِن نِفاقٍ6

1184. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Whoever dies, having neither waged a campaign nor having intended to do so, dies on a branch of hypocrisy [in his heart].'7

1185. مستدرك الوسائل : رُوِيَ أنَّ رجُلاً أتى‏ جَبَلاً لِيَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ فيهِ ، فجاءَ بهِ أهلُهُ إلى‏ رَسولِ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله فنَهاهُ عَن ذلكَ ، وقالَ له : إنَّ صَبرَ المسلمِ في بعضِ مَواطِنِ الجِهادِ يَوماً واحداً خَيرٌ لَهُ مِن عِبادَةِ أربعينَ سنةً8

1185. It is narrated in Mustadrak al-Wasail that a man went to a mountain to worship Allah and his family had went to the Prophet (SAWA) to complain about him. The Prophet forbade him from it, saying, 'The patience of a Muslim in certain places of jihad for one day is better than worshipping for forty years.'9

1186. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنّ الجِهادَ بابٌ مِن أبْوابِ الجَنّةِ فَتَحَهُ اللَّهُ لِخاصَّةِ أوْليائهِ ، وهُو لِباسُ التَّقوى‏ ، ودِرْعُ اللَّهِ الحَصينَةُ ، وجُنَّتُهُ الوَثيقَةُ10

1186. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Indeed jihad is one of the gates of Paradise that Allah has opened for his exceptional friends. It is the garment of piety, Allah's fortified defense and a solid shield.'11

1187. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : الجِهادُ عِمادُ الدِّينِ ، ومِنْهاجُ السُّعَداءِ12

1187. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Jihad is the pillar of religion and the path of the felicitous.'13

1188. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنّ اللَّهَ فَرضَ الجِهادَ وعَظَّمَهُ وجَعلَهُ نَصْرَهُ وناصِرَهُ. واللَّهِ ، ما صَلُحتْ دُنيا ولا دِينٌ إلّا بهِ14

1188. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Verily Allah has made jihad obligatory and has magnified it and made it a [source of] triumph and a helper. By Allah, neither one's worldly affairs nor one's religion are set aright except through it.'15

1189. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنَّ الجِهادَ أشْرَفُ الأعمالِ بعدَالإسلامِ ، وهُو قِوامُ الدِّينِ ، والأجْرُفيهِ عَظيمٌ مَع العِزّةِ والمَنَعةِ ، وهُو الكَرّهُ ، فيهِ الحَسَناتُ والبُشْرى‏ بالجنّةِبَعد الشَّهادَةِ16

1189. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Certainly jihad is the noblest of deeds after [acceptance of] Islam, and it is the pillar of religion. The reward for it is great, while at the same time, consistently maintaining one's honour and strength. It is the assult in which there are rewards and good tidings of Paradise after martyrdom.'17

1190. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام - في كتابِه إلى‏ عامِلِه مِخْنَفٍ - : فإنَّ جِهادَ مَن صَدَفَ عَن الحقِّ رَغْبةً عنهُ ، وعَبَّ في نُعاسِ العَمى‏ والضَّلالِ اخْتِياراً لَهُ ، فَريضَةٌ على‏ العارِفِينَ18

1190. Imam Ali (AS) said, in his letter to his administrator Mikhnaf, 'Indeed it is a duty upon he who has knowledge to struggle against he who turns away from the truth while despising it and he chose to sleep in blindness and misguidance.'19

1. The Arabic word jihad lexically means struggle, fight, or combat, but has adopted a very specific meaning in Islamic terminology. When used in its general sense or as 'the lesser jihad', it refers to physical combat or 'holy war' against infidels, disbelievers or hypocrites who wage war against Islam and Muslims. 375 The One Who Wages Jihad

(لا يَسْتَوِي الْقاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُولي الضَّرَرِ وَالْمُجاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيل اللَّهِ)1

“Not equal are those of the faithful who sit back-excepting those who suffer from some disability-and those who wage jihad in the way of Allah...” 2

1191. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : ما أعْمالُ العِبادِ كُلِّهِم عِندالمُجاهِدينَ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ إلّا كَمِثْلِ خُطّافٍ أخَذَ بمِنْقارِهِ مِن ماءِ البَحرِ3

1191. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The deeds of all the worshippers when compared to those who wage jihad in the way of Allah is as a gulp of sea-water that a swallow takes into his beak.'4

1192. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : السُّيوفُ مَفاتِيحُ الجَنّةِ5

1192. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Swords are the keys to Paradise.'6

1193. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : المُجاهِدونَ تُفْتَحُ لَهُم أبْوابُ السَّماءِ7

1193. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'The doors of the heavens are opened for those who wage jihad.'8

1194. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : مَن جَهّزَ غازياً بسِلْكٍ أو إبْرَةٍ غَفَرَاللَّهُ لَهُ ما تَقدَّمَ من ذَنبهِ وما تَأخّرَ1

1194. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Whoever equips a warrior, even with a needle or thread, Allah forgives his past and future sins.'2

1195. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : مَن بَلّغَ رسالةَ غازٍ كانَ كَمَنْ أعْتقَ‏رَقَبةً، وهُو شَريكُهُ في بابِ «ثوابِ» غَزْوَتِهِ3

1195. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Whoever carries a message on behalf of a fighter during war is like one who frees a slave, and he partakes in the reward of the one who actually fought.'4

1196. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : اتَّقوا أذَى المُجاهِدينَ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ ، فإنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْضَبُ لَهُم كَما يَغْضَبُ للرُّسُلِ ، ويَسْتَجيبُ لَهُم كَما يَسْتَجيبُ لَهُم5

1196. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Be wary of harming those who fight in the way of Allah, for Allah is angered for their sake just as He is for the sake of the Prophet (SAWA), and He answers their prayers just as He answers the prayers of the Prophet (SAWA).'6

1197. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : صَلاةُ الرّجُلِ مُتَقَلِّداً بسَيفِهِ تَفْضُلُ‏علىْ صَلاتِهِ غَيرَ مُتَقَلِّدٍ بسَبعِمائةِ ضِعْفٍ1

1197. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The prayer of one carrying his sword is seven hundred times better than praying without it.'2

1198. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : جاهِدوا في سبيلِ اللَّهِ بأيْديكُم، فإنْ لَم تَقْدِروا فجاهِدوا بألسِنَتِكُم ، فإنْ لَم تَقْدِروا فجاهِدوا بقُلوبِكُم3

1198. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Fight in the way of Allah with your hands; and if you are not able to do so then fight with your tongues; and if you are still not able to then fight with your hearts.'4

1199. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : اللَّهَ اللَّهَ في‏الجِهادِ بأمْوالِكُم وأنْفُسِكُم وألْسِنَتِكُم في سبيلِ اللَّهِ5

1199. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'By Allah! By Allah! Stuggle with your wealth, your selves and your tongues for the sake of Allah.'6

378 Abandoning Jihad

1200. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : فمَن تَركَ الجِهادَ ألْبسَهُ اللَّهُ‏ذُلّاً في نفسِهِ، وفَقْراً في مَعيشَتِهِ، ومَحْقاً في دِينهِ. إنَّ اللَّهَ تباركَ وتعالى‏ أعَزَّ اُمّتي بسَنابِكِ خَيْلِها ومَراكِزِ رِماحِها1

1200. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Allah covers with disgrace the one who abandons jihad, and subjects him to poverty, and deprivation in his religion. Verily Allah, blessed and most High, has honoured my community by the solid hooves of its cavalry, and the tips of its lances.'2

1201. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : الجِهادِ على‏ أرْبَعِ شُعَبٍ :على‏ الأمرِ بالمَعروفِ والنَّهيِ عنِ المُنكَرِ والصِّدْقِ في المَواطِنِ وشَنَآنِ الفاسقِينَ1

1201. Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Jihad has four branches: enjoining the good, forbidding the wrong, fortitude in the battlefield, and detesting the wicked.'2

380 Keeping Posts

(وَأَعِدُّوا لَهُمْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ وَمِنْ رِبَاطِ الْخَيْلِ تُرْهِبُونَ بِهِ عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ وَعَدُوَّكُمْ وَآخَرِينَ مِنْ دُونِهِم)1

“Prepare against them whatever you can of [military] power and war-horses, awing thereby the enemy of Allah, and your enemy, and others besides them, whom you do not know but Allah knows them.” 2

(يا أيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اصْبِرُوا وَصَابِرُوا وَرَابِطُوا وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ)3

“O you who have faith! Be patient, stand firm, and close [your ranks], and be wary of Allah so that you may be felicitous.” 4

1202. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : رِباطُ يَومٍ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ خَيرٌ مِن الدُّنيا وما عَلَيها5

1202. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Keeping your posts for a single day is better than the whole world and all that it contains.'6

1203. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : كُلُّ عَملٍ مُنْقَطِعٌ عَن صاحبِهِ إذاماتَ إلّا المُرابِطَ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ ، فإنَّهُ يُنْمى‏ لَهُ عَملُهُ ويُجْرى‏ علَيهِ رِزْقُهُ إلى‏ يَومِ القِيامَةِ7

1203. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Every action will be separated from its owner upon death, except the one who maintained his post for the sake of Allah, since it will be increased and rewarded to him until the Day of Resurrection.'8

381 The Merit of Standing Guard

1204. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : حَرَسُ لَيلةٍ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ عزّوجلّ أفْضَلُ مِن ألفِ لَيلةٍ يُقامُ لَيلُها ويُصامُ نَهارُها1

1204. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Standing guard for a single night for the sake of Allah is better than a thousand nights spent in worship followed by fasting during the day.'2

1205. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : عَيْنانِ لا تَمَسُّهُما النّارُ : عَينٌ بَكَتْ مِن خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ ، وعَينٌ باتَتْ تَحْرُسُ في سبيلِ اللَّهِ3

1205. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The eyes of two categories of people will never touch the fire: the one who cried out of fear of Allah, and the one who spent the night awake standing guard for the sake of Allah.'4
