The Martyrdom of Imam Hasan Askari (A.S)

During the year 235 A.H., Imam Hadi (A.S) was forced to come to Iraq from Medina by the cruel rulers of Bani Abbas. At that time, Imam Hasan Askari (A.S) was only three or four years old. Due to frequent visits by the people, the caliph had ordered that they should live in a military area and be under tight government surveillance.

The Abbasid government did not allow 'Ulama' and jurisprudent to communicate with Imam Abu Muhammad (a.s.) lest his virtues and vast knowledge would be spread among people everywhere, as then people would be affected by him and would turn their backs to the Abbasids. In spite of all the severe procedures the Abbasids took to separate the imam from people, some 'Ulama' and narrators communicated with him and narrated his traditions. Here we mention the companions and narrators in brief because this completes the research on the personality of Imam Abu Muhammad (a.s.).

They subjected him to confinement and imposed on him an economical blockade. Imam Abu Muhammad al-Hassan al-Askari (a.s) spent his short life in sufferings and distresses. The Abbasid kings spared no effort in oppressing him. They moved him from a prison to another. And this, as I think, was the worst distress the imam suffered. They tried more than one time to assassinate him but Allah protected him from their plots.

One of those was Ishaq al-Kindi. This man was a great philosopher of Iraq. He collected such verses of Noble Qur'an whose meanings were apparently contradictory, in a book called as "self-contradictions". He wanted to prove thereby that it was not the word of Almighty Allah (SWT). When the news reached Imam Hassan Askari (as), he waited for an opportunity to refute him.
