The 40th (Arba’een or Chehlum) marks an important turning point in the movement of Kerbala. This day, which is no less important to the day of Aashura is important for many reasons – the prime being that the Ahlu’l Bayt reached the land of Kerbala on this day and performed the visitation to Sayyid ash-Shuhada Imam Hussain (A) and the loyal family and friends who gave their life for the cause of Islam.

Imam Hasan Al-Askari (a.s.) includes the performance of Ziyarat-e-Arba’een as one of the five marks for a believer, in addition to reciting 51 raka of sala, audible recitation of Bismillah, wearing a ring on one’s right hand, and doing sajda on dust. Due to their ignorance, some people allege that lamentation for Imam Hussain (A) is an innovation (bidat) and is 'haram'. Some of them knowingly support the propaganda of those who harbour selfish motives against Azadari (mourning) although reason demands that one must not accept gullibly all that one hears. In Karbala event we observe, Yazid’s attempt to secure allegiance from Imam Husayane on the one hand, and Kufa’s invitation of Imam Husayn on the other. But the very important and noticeable point is Imam’s criticizing Yazid and his government without considering the aforementioned points. He criticized corruption, cruelty, and venality in Yazid’s system. He encourages biding to honour and probiding to devil. As a matter of fact all the three reasons mentioned were important for Imam to start his reaction against Yazid, but let’s see which of them has been the most influential one!?
